Biomechanics

Biomechanics

Biomechanics is the science that examines the internal and external forces acting on a human body and the effects produced by these forces. Our philosophy is to use the science of biomechanics to help our clients improve performance, increase efficiency, reduce injury, and thus enjoy exercise and physical activity. We do not own, market, or sell one technique of running. We understand human variation. Therefore, we seek to find what works best for the individual.

Running

Running may be the most innate physical activity we humans enjoy. It is our simple belief that all runners from beginners to elites can benefit from learning to run more efficiently.

The first step is to assess the current running mechanics of our clients. Our assessment includes the use of the following tools: film sessions, postural assessment, stride rate and stride length assessment, foot placement, and the assessment of rotational and angular movements.

After assessment we then offer individualized specific training to teach our clients how to run more efficiently. It is important to note that learning to run efficiently is a skill that cannot be learned in a day or during a weekend clinic. It takes patience and time. There are no magic remedies, and we offer no promises of revolutionary or effortless running. Effortless running does not exist. However, our methods work and are backed up by years of experience and scientific fact.

Our Program

FITAthletics offers a four (4) week biomechanics training program. The program we offer is taught on a one-to-one or small group basis (3 people or less).  We feel individual and small group instruction applied over time is more effective than large group clinics. As with any technical athletic movement, individual and small group learning just works better.

Each weekly session will last approximately 2-3 hours. Participants will be able to learn efficient running methods from each session and then apply these methods gradually over time. Changing too quickly from one movement technique to another in a short period of time can lead to injury. Learning and adaptation is a slow process, and the body must be allowed time to adapt. We take the time necessary for true learning and adaption to occur.
